CCT 5005: Keyword & Avatar
Hi again! As a reminder, my keyword is autonomy, specifically in the context of social media addiction and the “endless scroll.”
My avatar, which you can find below, is a black box constructed from poster board and duct tape, with reflective foam inside, and features a 3D-printed bust of myself. One end of the box holds my iPad, playing a video of me endlessly scrolling through TikTok, symbolizing how social media confines users in a loop of mindless content consumption. The reflective foam represents the way these platforms distort our self-image, while the small bust of myself inside the box emphasizes the reduction of our autonomy, as we become increasingly controlled by these technologies. By sealing the box and filming from within, I sought to convey the isolation and detachment social media fosters, as well as how it traps us within its cycle, limiting personal freedom and autonomy.
This last photo captures the angle that I hope for the Avatar to be viewed from, showing the difference in size between the bust and the iPad.
Thank you so much for taking the time to check this out- I’m very happy with how it ended up!
